On My Way to a Healthy Self

I know that I have been neglecting my blog lately, but let me share with you the reason(s) I've been so busy. Weight Loss! Yes, you heard me right; losing weight sure is time consuming. The reason it’s time consuming is mostly due to my sweet little ones who require a large sum of my time and attention. When I'm not taking care of my children/house duties I'm putting myself first and working on my health.  There have been many times when I’ve wanted to give up putting forth the extra effort to lose weight. Often thinking to myself, “is all this work really worth it?” For those who may be wondering, it’s completely worth it.

Lately I have been walking 5 miles a day to get my exercise. So far, I believe I have walked a total of 50 miles within the last 3 weeks (wow, that sounds like a lot when I sum it up). I started out walking just a few miles a day, which then increased to 5 miles last week. Let me tell you something, I love walking! I have really bad knees, especially when I’m overweight so it’s a great option for me. So far I’ve lost about 7 lbs, (within a 2 month period of time). That number may not sound like much, but I know I’m losing fat instead of muscle and water weight. I also know I will be able to keep this weight off over time.

My overall goal is to lose about 35 more lbs, which will bring me down to what I weighed when I got married. I plan to give myself a year to lose that weight. I need to take weight loss slowly because I’m nursing and I want to make sure I don’t lose my milk supply. I’m trying not to focus on a number so much as getting to an optimum health with my new “mommy” body. I feel like I’m off to a good start. I just need to be patient and stay motivated, which are both very tricky. Wish me luck!

Go Megs! You are awesome! I need you to help inspire me to get exercise too and be healthy. :) Do you think that it has helped lots to have the jogging stroller? Should I try to get one?...it would have to be an inexpensive used one though because I know they can be pricey. What do you think? I wish we lived a little closer because I would love to be walking buddies! Maybe we should plan a weekly "walk" for the rest of this summer. I can drive to you or you to me or whatever. What do you think? :)
