We're Back!

(I started this post a while ago, but didn’t get the chance to finish it because it was on hubby’s computer)

Brady, Spencer, and I are back in Provo after our long awaited vacation. I didn’t really get the chance to blog while we were away, so here it goes…

Spencer and I started our vacation a little earlier than Brady. My family invited us to stay with them before the Shaw reunion, so of course I accepted their offer. Brady couldn’t come down early because of school and work, such a hard worker. So Spencer and I drove with my Grandma and Grandpa Catherall to Northern California for James’ and Elise’s Vanguard (Drum and Bugle Corps) performance at Stanford on June 27. Their shows were amazing; both of their performances gave me chills. I wish I could watch every one of their performances. After their performances we (My parents, Amber, Spencer, and I) drove home to Yorba Linda. Spencer and I then got the chance to spend time with my parents and Amber, we had so much fun! We did all sorts of fun things; we visited the Newport Beach temple grounds and took pictures, we took Spencer to a park that both Brady and I went to when we were little, and we even went to Disneyland. It was Spencer’s first trip to Disneyland and we were sad Brady couldn’t be there, but we still had so much fun. We really enjoyed our visit with my parents; it’s always nice to spend time with family.

Brady arrived in California late Thursday night, July 2, just in time for the Shaw family reunion. It’s always so fun to get the whole Shaw gang together, it doesn’t happen very often so it’s quite a treat when it does happen. Kevin and Randi’s family weren’t able to come until the end of the week, but at least we were all together for a couple of days. We spent most of the trip playing in the sun (as it should be during the summer), either at the beach, swimming in the pool, or playing some activity outside, like volleyball. We had a blast spending time with the family. Some of my favorite memories of the Shaw family include the family gathered together simply chatting, we always laugh and I get to here some of their hilarious childhood memories. Spencer loved playing with his Cousins, Aunties, Uncles, and Grandparents; we wish we lived closer to all our family.

It was so nice for Brady, Spencer, and I to escape our hectic world for awhile and spend quality time with each other. Some of my favorite moments while we were in California were seeing the world yet again through my child’s eyes. There is something so unique about experiencing events with your child, especially activities your child doesn’t participate in very often. For example, Spencer absolutely loved the beach! In fact, he was a little too comfortable with the water and waves as he would venture out as far as he could before either Brady or I ran after him. He has always loved water, but he hasn’t had very many opportunities to experience the ocean water. It was such a treat to see Spencer’s face light up every time a wave came crashing toward us. And to see his excitement once the waves took their strong course back to the big blue, which would result in me holding on to Spencer tight to avoid the waves taking him with them. I could write a novel about the world through my child’s eyes, it really makes you appreciate every big and little moment.
