The Shaw's as of Late

A long overdue update is about to take place, brace yourself...

Spencer:
He is now 20 months of age going on the terrible two's. He really isn't a difficult child; he is just in a phase where he is trying to take his stance. He must let us know that he wants to be in control..."I am Spencer here me roar." This is quite an exaggeration. The biggest thing we have noticed is his proclamation to be independent; after all he is 20 months old and thinks he is ready to drive the car. We encourage his need to be independent.

One of his acts of independence is to dress himself, it’s very darling. So far he has conquered the act of putting on socks, putting his arms through a shirt, and putting two legs through one pant leg. He is also good at undressing himself, mostly taking his pants and diaper off during nap time. It is quite the treat! Along with his need for independence come the tantrums. They are few and far between, but they come on strong.

The thing that we are dealing with right now is trying to teach him reverence, especially during church. Now I understand he is quite young for such a lesson, but I believe habits form early. Also, my definition of reverence for a 20 month old is very different than my definition for a 5 year old. Basically, the current definition consists of not running around during sacrament meeting. This is not the easy task, especially when he sees other’s his age running amuck. It’s a hard battle, but I keep telling myself I’m going to win. I’ll let you know how this battle turns out in a couple of month or years…

Other than his sweet desperation to be independent he is our little buddy. He loves to play outside, and I mean LOVES this activity! He finds it quite exhilarating to walk outside, as do I. Needless to say we are looking forward to warmer days. We are constantly told that there is something special about Spencer; Brady was told this same thing while growing up…he takes after his father for sure. I love it!

Megan (me):
The biggest news for me is that I will be graduating form BYU this April! I am looking forward to this day with such exuberance. I have never felt so proud of an accomplishment (other than childbearing and childbirth). I have been enjoying my last class this semester; it’s the perfect ending to my college chapter. After I graduate I plan on pursuing my dream to be a photographer. I would love to have my own studio some day. Until then I will enjoy taking pictures and spread word of my little business once I am ready.

Brady:
The most recent news is that Brady was invited to be a part of the International Honors Society chapter at UVU. I am so proud of my hubby; he is such a hardworking student. He just finished registering for classes for the summer and it looks like he will be taking about 19 credits. I know that is quite the load, but all of his classes are divided up into two terms, so he will have about 4 classes each term. At this rate he will most likely graduate fall 2010.

He is looking to apply to a program called Teach for America for after graduation. It’s a two year program where he would teach in an assigned urban or rural public school to help improve the education program in that area. It’s a really great program that accepts students with high academic achievement and who have held leadership positions. It seems like a great opportunity for us and we look forward to what the future brings us.

This is the update from the Shaw’s for now…stay tuned for more.

That's awesome that you are going to be a photographer! Let me know if you need any help- and let me know if you are looking for another photographer to join you! =)

Kaden was about that old when we started to enforce reverence too... its rough, but so worth it... he eventually figured out that it was better to be on the bench coloring and playing with quiet toys than it was to be in the foyer sitting on mine or dads lap... keep it up!

Thanks Lauren, it's comforting to know that I might win in the end! =)

My brother in law (Alden) graduated last June and joined up with the Teach for America program. He works in the heart of LA, it's a challenge, but he's trying to make a difference and as far as I know he loves it! Lemme know if Brady wants to talk to someone who's a part of it, it never hurts to get an insider's perspective. :)

Hey! Teach for America really is an awesome program. Nate was really interested in it but decided to go with Sears instead. I know Steele Kizerian just got accepted to work with them and is leaving to teach in DC in June. And apparently it's one of the top programs/companies that other companies look at to hire from. Seriously, Brady would LOVE it! I'm so excited for you guys! It sounds like things are going so well for you guys!
