Shaw Girl's Weekend

Weekends such as the one I'm about to describe always fly by as if all a dream. This past weekend (April 24-27) The Shaw girls all got together in Boise, Idaho for our annual girls weekend. I was looking forward to this weekend for a long time. I love spending time with my sisters-in law and mother in-law; we always create lasting memories. Plus it’s always nice to escape life for a few days, especially as a busy mom. This year we went to Boise, where Angie and her family live (each year we go somewhere different).

We had so much fun! I say we, because both Spencer and I attended the girl’s weekend. Spencer was such a trooper. It's difficult for a baby to travel and stay in new places, but he did well. The only issue we had is a pretty funny story, which I will tell shortly. We did all sorts of things while we were in Boise. All the Shaw girls love to scrapbook, so we dedicated plenty of time to our beloved hobby. I started Spencer's scrapbook while I was there, which I have since worked on at home (it’s adorable). We also got to visit some unique places in Idaho. One place we went to was a quaint boutique/restaurant called Cottage Expressions; it's the perfect place for brunch with the girls. They make the most delicious food; my mouth is watering just thinking about it. They are famous for their Monte Cristo sandwiches; which are to die for yummo. As I stated above, this restaurant is also a boutique. They have the most darling tea pots and home décor; it was fun to window shop. While we were at the restaurant we surprised Angie with a baby shower, which she loved. After the yummy food we all drove to this beautiful park with lush grass, ponds, and geese, what more could you ask for? While we were there Angie taught us what she knows about photography and took pictures of each of us. I will post those pictures as soon as I get them. It was a fun filled day.

Now, on with the funny story about Spencer that I promised. One of the nights we were there we ate at this yummy Mexican restaurant. Now keep in mind Spencer wasn't getting his usual day naps, so he was a bit more sensitive. As soon as we sat down to eat Spencer started crying, but it wasn't just an ordinary cry…it was full of fear. I noticed that he would look at the ceiling fan cry and look away, he would then look at the fan again cry and look away. He repeated this many times so I decided to step outside. He calmed down so I went back inside. And again he looked at the fan cried and looked away. So we had the brilliant idea to turn the fan off. Spencer stared at the fan while it slowly stopped and then stared at it some more as it was stopped, after which he gave a sigh of relief. He was pretty content after that. So apparently Spencer is afraid of fans, who knew a fan could be so scary? Haley took some pictures of the whole event, so I will post those when I get them. All in all, Spencer and I had a wonderful time while we were in Idaho. I can’t wait until next year!

That is hilarious. I remember taking Cora to a Mexican restaurant when she was probably 8 months old. They had fans. It was the only thing that STOPPED her from screaming through the whole meal. After that, we made a point of looking for restaurants with ceiling fans.
